Crop Top Confidence: How to Get Out of a Business Funk

Episode 958: Show Notes

If you’re feeling stuck, stalled, or just tired of feeling like you’re going through the motions, this episode is for you. I’ve been in a funk for weeks, feeling lost, confused, and frustrated, and everyone was giving me really lame advice. So I went on my own discovery journey to figure out what I needed to do to get out of my own funk. It was so much simpler than I realized and if I had this structure from the start, I would have gotten there a lot sooner and felt a lot less frustrated! I’m here for the practical, the tactical, and what you can actually do about it. This episode is part pep talk, part reset strategy, and it’s as much for me as it is for you!

The Real Reason You Might Be Feeling Lost or Stuck

Often, the reason you’re feeling stuck is that you’ve lost track of your ‘why’. Why did you start this business? What is it for? Is the person you originally defined as your ideal client still the person you want to work with? If you’ve lost your spark, I encourage you to think about what’s exciting to you, how you want to show up for people, how you want to serve people. What does your ideal client need, and is your current product or service positioned to help them? Or are you just rinsing and repeating the same thing you have done for years?

How to Let Go of Self-Judgment and be a Strong Person in your Business

I had to let go of self-judgment. You have to move to self-curiosity instead. Why are you feeling out of touch, numb, or lost? I recently heard Jay Shetty say that weak people focus on other people’s weaknesses, strong people focus on others’ strengths. Weak people notice other people’s mistakes and laugh. Strong people notice other people’s mistakes and learn. Weak people envy other people ahead of them, while strong people study people ahead of them. All of these people are simply looking at the exact same situation differently. Which one are you choosing to be?

What it Means to See the Opportunities Instead of Spiralling

I began to feel ‘off’ because I didn’t want to grow in the same way I saw others growing, but as I started to study people instead of envying them, I realized the issue was that I had no mentors, no direction, and no one to look up to. I discovered that what I really wanted to do was write. I needed to start taking inspiration from those who centered writing as the primary portion of their career. My products aren’t changing right now, but how I show up right now? That’s what needed to shift. If you were to do your own self-exploration, moving away from judgment into curiosity. How are you seeing yourself? How are you seeing your business? Do you continue to focus on your lack of enthusiasm or energy or vibe? Or do you see an opportunity to shift something? Instead of spiralling, I want you to study what’s working.

A Reset Ritual to Help You Get Re-Energized and Re-Inspired

With this new lens, you’re going to revisit your offers and your messaging. Are they reflective of where you are right now and where you want to go? Your environment also plays a huge role in how you feel: Do you need to reorganize your workspace or your schedule? Maybe you need to listen to new people and podcasts. If everything you consume looks alike, you need to get out of your bubble! Ultimately, my goal for you isn’t to always be inspired or always know what to say or where you are going. My goal is for you to be confident that you have the tools to figure it out and to get out of that funk and move forward.

Crop-Top Confidence and Where to Find It

You might be wondering why I put ‘crop top confidence’ in the title. The reason is that the frumpy feeling I had in my business leaked into every area of my life. Recently, I walked into a store and saw a cropped workout t-shirt I thought was so cute, but I just didn’t feel sexy enough to wear it. Then I put it on, and I felt so good! And because I felt good, when I wear that thing, it makes me feel my best! What if, when you feel like you’re not good enough for something, you decide to just try first? Why not you? Go into this with curiosity, because you might come out on the other end with a level of confidence that you didn’t even know was possible.

Instead of spiralling about engagement or momentum or how much money is coming in, I want you to study what’s working, and how you can pay attention.
