Why You Need an Awareness Platform and a Nurture Platform

The first step on the path to a sustainable marketing maintenance strategy is committing to an awareness platform and a nurture platform. If you’re just getting started, then I suggest you begin with just one for each category. First, an awareness platform is what is going to get you in front of strangers. It allows more people to see that you exist, and it’s where you earn their trust and get them to follow you. Nurture platforms, like email lists, are where you continue to educate them and provide value, ensuring that at some point they convert.

Choosing Your Platforms

Popular awareness platforms in 2024 include Instagram, Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube, and YouTube shorts. Each of these requires different strategies to raise awareness and then shift over to nurturing leads. And when it comes to nurture, there’s no need to limit yourself to social media– you can use outside platforms, like email lists and podcasts. Of course, there are costs involved with many of these. If you’re able to spend on podcasting, then that’s a great option, but if you want more cost-effective options, some of which are free, then Instagram and email lists are an excellent choice.

Instagram Marketing Strategies and Analytics

Currently, I’ve found doing one reel, five days a week, to be the optimal number for me. I also do five to ten stories a week – although sometimes it’s way more than that! This may seem like a lot, but once you hit on what’s working, and you get into the habit, it becomes much easier to maintain! I also haven’t seen much benefit from trying to do more reels. Staying consistent is much more impactful.

One of the best strategies I’ve landed on for Instagram reels is optimizing for comments to drive engagement. The tactics that have really been working for me are calling people to action by commenting. I then send them a direct message with a link to take the next step. Since I’m optimizing for comments, I can see which posts are the most effective at driving those comments and lean into those!

Balance Experimentation with Repetition

People often think they need to be this content-generating machine, but if you identify a few strategies that consistently yield results, repetition isn't a bad thing. Of course, it's important to make tweaks along the way. Finding that balance between experimentation and repetition is crucial. In the early stages, everything's an experiment. But once you've pinpointed what's currently effective and you're seeing success, there's no harm in leveraging it repeatedly. It's simpler than you think!

Instagram Stories and Building Awareness

Currently in my Instagram stories, I am consistently showing behind-the-scenes things that are happening (in my life and in my business) that showcase my personality. Now, If you’re a private person who doesn’t want to share anything about your personal life, that’s fine! The key is creating curiosity-invoking content that is clearly not sales-related. The more engagement you can get on something like stories the more Instagram is going to prioritize you in other people’s feeds.

Don’t be Afraid to Sell

Many of us also have a huge hesitation around creating posts geared towards selling and advertising our services and products, when we really shouldn’t. People are overwhelmed with so much content that they need to see your posts over and over again before the information actually sticks. If you want more clients more consistently, regardless of whether it’s one-to-many, or one-on-one, you have to tell them what is for sale!

How to Use Email

If you want to take your marketing efforts further, then email is a very positive step. The reason I wouldn’t necessarily start with email, if you’re new to this, is because you need to get used to writing. Social is a great place to practice and will prepare you for writing emails. For me, three emails a week is the norm, two of which are dedicated to the podcasts I am releasing. But you can decide what works for you and lean into topics that you’re excited to share with your readers. I typically write my emails in batches. It’s an excellent opportunity to expand and nurture in another location, separate from social media.
