Keeping SEO Relevant in the New Era of AI with Zach Boyette

Episode 878: Show Notes

AI is one of the things that is probably at the forefront of every business owner’s mind, and if you feel like you don’t quite know what’s going on, you are not alone! In this conversation, marketing entrepreneur and digital nomad Zach Boyette joins us to discuss how to stay SEO-relevant in the age of “robots.” AI is changing so many parts of marketing right now. A great way to get on top of these new changes is to focus on the SEO side of things. Many of you might know how to get to the top of Google searches but may be clueless when it comes to doing the same on ChatGPT and Gemini, for example. Today, Zach walks us through what brands can do to improve SEO using AI.

How to Leverage AI to Improve Search Engine Optimization

Zach believes that there are two sides of the coin when it comes to using AI for SEO. The first is using AI internally on the traditional SEO strategies that your brand is already using. While AI models can be useful when it comes to writing content, Zach discourages listeners from using it to write all of their content because it is not special or interesting. You want to be one in a million, not one of a million! You can, however, use AI models like ChatGPT to improve your writing process, from creating outlines to fleshing out ideas, proposing things during brainstorms, revising work you’ve already done, suggestions for internal linking, and so much more. Zach wants you to know that first-source content from your website is still important, but it’s more important than ever to find other ways to get your brand mentioned. The second side of the AI and SEO coin is optimizing SEO within AI models such as ChatGPT.

How to Become a Top Search Result on Large-Language Models

Writing good content on your site will always be the best way to show up on Google and large-language models (LLMs). Getting your brand mentioned on other websites is also a good way to show up more on LLMs because the more you are mentioned, the higher your chances are of showing up on these models. LLMs such as ChatGPT are updated quite often and most likely in real-time, unlike when they were first launched. It’s important to start focusing on how you can stay SEO-relevant on these models so that, when other businesses realize the benefit of it, you are already far ahead! Users are going to get better and better at using ChatGPT and eventually, they will be experts at prompting the software and training the model on their own brands. At the end of the day, any brand that is getting great results, creating information-rich content, being helpful to their audience, and receiving positive feedback will get great “rewards” on both Google and LLMs, so be sure to focus on that!

The Future of Marketing in the World of AI

According to Zach, we are slowly moving toward a world where search engines and LLMs are prioritizing brands that do what they say they do and deliver results. Search engines are getting better than ever at figuring out if what people are talking about actually matches reality. This might take some time, but we’re approaching a future where text is being digested to understand the meaning of a certain thing, so it’s going to become more and more difficult to misrepresent yourself as a brand and trick search engines. In a world filled with so much noise, people are seeking truth and they want to know exactly what you do. The truth is going to be defined and redefined as all of these models get better!
