Re-Envision Your Role Within Your Business

Episode 739: Show Notes

An overwhelming majority of female-owned businesses (88%, to be exact) are run by women who do not have a single employee. That means they are essentially doing everything on their own. And if you are pursuing growth, then running your company without any support is not a sustainable business model!

We are seeing many seasoned entrepreneurs reach a breaking point where they can’t decide whether they should give up their business or commit to becoming a leader and bringing on a team to support them. If this sounds like you, and you want to create a change, then it may well be time to re-envision your role within your business.

Our goal is to see more and more women occupy a true CEO seat. Our C-Suite on Demand program is designed to help more women take the step from being a solo CEO to becoming a leader that has the team she needs to support her vision. Tune in as we take a closer look at the options available to CEOs who want to re-envision their role and enter the next phase of leadership, all with the support of our team at Boss Project!

The Reality of Removing Yourself From the Business

If you've been listening to this show for a while, you may have noticed that we are not quite in alignment with a certain portion of the thought leader, influencer, and marketing education population. For one thing, we don’t believe there is just one way to do things. And we definitely don’t agree with bullying and shaming tactics to get people to subscribe to programs and methodologies — or buy into lavish lifestyles tied to a specific revenue figure or impact level.

One particular message we’ve noticed from this sector (that we’d like to address today) is the idea that once you get to a certain point in your business, the only logical next step is to remove yourself from it. While on the surface this may sound appealing, there’s a lot that this sector is not being entirely upfront about.

We are by no means suggesting that you can’t transition out of certain tasks and responsibilities in your business, automate systems, or start to think about succession plans at some point. After all, there is a time and a place for everything (and most of us don’t want to work forever). But there’s a big difference between being the owner and being the operator of your business. And unfortunately, the solution that many people out there are offering doesn’t quite line up with reality.

Knocking on Burnout’s Door

One of the main reasons why the idea of removing yourself from your business entirely might feel so appealing, is that you have been knocking on burnout's door for quite some time. You’ve likely been doing most (or all) of your service delivery for a hot minute, including everything from marketing and sales processes to networking. And being offered a solution where you can simply step away can be incredibly enticing. But if the solution that is being presented to you seems too good to be true, it’s probably because it is!

Too much of what is being said and taught is designed to take advantage of people’s vulnerability in a way that we simply don’t align ourselves with. We would much rather show you a realistic way that you can get out of burnout, have more ease, be focused on life first, and continue to operate your company in a way that respects people. Not just for yourself, but for your clients, and the team that will ultimately work for you!

Getting the Support You Need

We want you to have the proper level of support in your business. But the truth is that there’s no single, linear path that will lead you to that point. We also want you to recognize the opportunity you have to become more of a leader in your own company. That means moving away from task-based roles, where you're constantly checking things off, and instead starting to move into more leadership and management-oriented roles. And while this may seem intimidating, if you’re ready to grow and be challenged, then this is totally the direction you want to be heading in!

Our goal is to help you on this journey. Because we want you to find the support you need with full knowledge of the areas that it's going to impact, including your budget. Ultimately, it’s about figuring out how to get the support you need in a way that makes financial sense to you. Maybe you don’t need a full-time employee ASAP. Perhaps what you need right now is to hire two contractors for 60 days, so that you can grow your capacity before creating space to hire. Either way, we're here to help you figure it out!

How to Re-envision Your Role

Our C-Suite On Demand Program is uniquely suited to seasoned entrepreneurs who’ve been growing their business for some time, but are nearing a breaking point — unsure whether they should shut it all down or figure out how to become a true leader of their company. We realize that this is an especially intimidating step, but it can be hugely worthwhile. And while we acknowledge that not everyone wants to be an executive, it’s important to note that if you’re the kind of person that wants to continually be challenged and grow, then this is definitely going to flex that growth muscle. Even if you decide against radically growing the revenue of your business!

If you’re interested in exploring how you can make your next, or even first, hire, as well as what you can do to transition out of client delivery work and move into management, then we want to have a conversation! Our C-Suite on Demand is actively open for enrollment and we want to hear all about the phase of business you’re in and the unique challenges you’re facing, and help you figure out whether this is a good fit for you. For a zero-pressure conversation, fill out our short form here, and book a time so we can chat about what makes sense to you!
