A Quick Update on Our Side Hustles + Other Nonsense
Episode 166: Show Notes
You guys have been knocking on our virtual door saying, “Give us a damn update on your side hustles!” You asked for it, so here it is; the update episode! A couple episodes ago, if you missed it, we talked about our side hustles – why we started them, what they are and how they work. But today’s episode is really just an update on how they are going, where they are going and what’s new. To give you a brief overview, Abbie began an MLM business in essential oils and Emylee began painting again.
Our side hustles grew out of a need to do something creative again and to do something for ourselves outside of TCC. They’ve been a great learning curve and we’re here today to give you a quick lowdown! In this episode, you’ll find out how Abbie’s MLM team has sky-rocked and about the exciting new partnerships in the pipeline for Emylee. We share what we’ve learned thus far from our side hustles and take a casual deviation into a hilarious conversation about bikini boot camps and burning holes in our yoga mats. Talk about a side note.
Find Out What’s New with Abbie’s Side Hustle in Essential Oils
Abbie is excited about how quickly her business has grown. Her business officially started in July 2017 and is officially at 92 downline members. The great thing is that when Abbie’s side hustle grows, Emylee’s business grows as it is an MLM business. An MLM business is a multi-level marketing company. Abbie is essentially a direct seller. She sells essential oils and the products that go along with Young Living, but she is also building a team. Abbie benefits from her team doing well and growing their own downline. In November, the business skyrocketed as her team started figuring it all out. In December, Abbie did something kind of rare, she hit the Silver-in-One, which is where you go from one rank to the next in one month. Abbie didn’t only pursue this job for the money though of course. It was more about reinvigorating her creativity and a more hands-on work approach. She also officially brought on her husband as a partner and she is super pumped about where it’s going. She has big dreams of being at a high rank, either platinum or diamond, by the end of 2018 which would mean freedom. If anyone out there has an interest in essential oils, we have both started a Facebook community. If you want to learn more, you can go to simplyhomeKC.com/community. Here we help new business owners and talk about essential oils and how helpful they are in replacing toxins and healing ailments in our bodies which are often triggered by stress.
Find Out What’s New with Emylee’s Side Hustle in the Art World
The art world has been a phenomenal one for Emylee. Emylee broke all her rules as a business owner because she wanted to be the only boss of something for once in over three years but at the same time, she didn’t want it to become a job. She wanted it to maintain its allure of letting it be a creative outlet for her. She is now at the point where she is able to cover the costs of her art supplies and break even. And this is where she wanted to be. She wanted to be able to explore her nerdy artist side and only now is really starting to look for partnerships, gallery openings etc. just for fun and for fun money. If you can get paid to do a hobby, then why not, right? She has an Etsy shop if you want to check out her artwork at emyleesays.com/shop. Emylee has learned a lot about Etsy from this side hustle and realized how much of her business, 58% to be exact, comes from Instagram. Emylee has a new partnership / collaboration on the horizon. Without sharing too many details yet, it is with a product-based business here in Kansas City. She is also, funny enough, doing a collaboration with her cousin who is a woodworker and reached out to her on Instagram! So stay up to date on those two exciting new ventures for 2018.
What Abbie’s Side Hustle has Brought Out in Her
Having these side hustles have helped us to get a lay of the land again. We needed to be reminded, in a way, what a new business felt like. Because Abbie’s business has been an MLM, they have so many of the things a company needs to be successful already done for you. So Abbie’s growth has been a lot quicker than Emylee’s because she doesn’t have to physically make a product. The essential oil community has also been a great support and add-on to TCC. Essential oils are used for so many things business owners, entrepreneurs and women need in this space. Essential oils changed our lives and to be able to offer that as an option to the TCC audience is great! The essential oils business has also brought a lot of things to the forefront for Abbie like her health, weight and exercise. Because she is now in a health industry, she is just way more aware of it in her own life.
What Emylee’s Side Hustle has Brought Out in Her
Emylee foresees herself saying yes to different opportunities. A couple of people have been asking on Instagram about a painting class and she would love to do some sort of in-person lessons with painting. She would also love to get into some painting shops just to say she did. She would also just like to keep blowing people’s minds with essential oils and impacting their lives in a positive way. At the end of the day, you have to believe in yourself and know what you want. Who knows? Maybe Abbie’s business will outgrow TCC someday. Their team is one of the fastest growing teams in the company and that’s not something to snuff at. Abbie is so happy to take Emylee along for the ride and do it together, but also not together. Which was a deliberate thing.

+ Other Nonsense
Hear more about Emylee’s ventures at a new all women’s workout studio and her thoughts on gym, cardio, $80 yoga mats, weird bikini bootcamps and the cycling classes she’ll never do. We don’t know how we went from MLM businesses to burning holes in yoga mats – but this section is hilarious, surprisingly motivating and bound to make you laugh.
Until next time!
