Behind The Scenes: Shooting a TV Show for a Major Streaming Network
Episode 829: Show Notes
Today I’m going to take you behind the scenes and share what it was like to shoot a TV show for a major streaming network. For now, I’m not allowed to tell you anything about the show so bear with me while I try to share my experiences in a somewhat cryptic manner! I’m also going to make a highlight reel on Instagram so you can see all of this there too!
I was approached as someone who built a business and asked to appear on the TV show. All I had seen was a sizzle reel for the show and I basically went in blind. I really think that this is going to have a good impact. Starting out, I had no idea what this experience was going to be like– but I said yes anyway! So let’s talk about it!
Shoot Dates Moving and Styling Myself
So the shoot kept being moved around which made me hyper-fixate on what I was wearing because that was the only thing I could control! Eventually, I figured out what I wanted to wear and how I wanted to present myself. And then, the shoot date was moved again! Finally, I got a firm date confirmed and I booked my flight. I had to move my schedule around; quite chaotically if I may add. And it all happened to be at the same time as I launched my new offer. It was a lot to handle! Thankfully, the wonderful Harriet Hadfield, who’s been on the show before, helped me find a makeup artist for the shoot day and I got my hair blown out a few days before! I was as ready as I could be.
When Self-Doubt Kicked In
When I landed for the shoot, I had the afternoon to myself and I was able to sit on the beach and reflect on how grateful I was for this opportunity. But that was when the terror set in and the negative self-talk began– because I couldn’t know for sure just how big this opportunity actually was. I worried that I was downplaying it or even overstating how big it would be. This is a pivotal moment in my career. I have never been in front of so many strangers at one time in my entire life. I had to give up so much control and just trust that everything would work out. I went back to my hotel and sat down for dinner. And the minute I sat down, I found out that the shoot was no longer happening the next day!
My Free Day in Los Angeles
I definitely wasn’t surprised that the shoot was moved back a day so I had to reschedule everything and suddenly had a whole day in Los Angeles. I thought I might find another outfit for the shoot but I was so disappointed by the stores– they had hardly any plus-sizes. Honestly, I was quite annoyed! But I managed to cheer myself up with a movie, an interesting conversation with a cab driver, and dinner with the lovely Harriet!
What This Means for the Second Half of My Career
My makeup has never looked better than it did on the day of the shoot, so I have to give a big shout-out to my amazing makeup artist! The first shooting location was at a restaurant and honestly, shooting was so much like my everyday job; planning and testing. Then we went back to the studio and I was amazed by the technology they used! We filmed direct-to-camera interviews and I was even able to see a rough cut of one of the interviews before any mixing or editing and that was so cool! That made me so excited because it helped me see that I would be a part of something that could have multiple seasons in the long term.
Regardless of how big the show is, this proved to me that I am meant to impact so many more people in my lifetime and it opened a new chapter for me. This represents the first few scenes of the second half of my career. None of this would’ve happened for me if it weren’t for all of you, so thank you so much! If you have any questions about this experience please feel free to DM me on Instagram.
