Celebrating Our 3 Year MeetAversary
Episode 236: Show Notes
Today’s podcast is really special retrospective as we are looking back on our meetaversary! We met three years ago and those of you who have been with use for a while, know just how special the journey we have made together has been! So we thought we would take this opportunity to look back on the last three years and really just pay tribute to each other and what we have achieved. Although it has not all been smooth sailing and easy terrain the good times have made the challenges that much more manageable. Through all the ups and downs that life has thrown at us, this business we have built together is a blessing and we are both so grateful for it!
We remember exactly how we first met and the first conversations we in the Savvy Community and the phone calls and sleepovers that followed. Once we spent time together we knew it was something special and the honesty we were able to exercise so quickly really showed us how rare our connection was. Very soon after meeting we started to see how we balanced each other out and complemented each other’s strengths and weakness. We hope everyone out there gets to feel this great feeling! We look back at some of the best and worst memories from this period and look forward to what the future might hold. This episode is a bit gushy and is all about us - but we know you care, otherwise you wouldn’t be here! And who doesn’t need a little bit more inspirations and gratefulness in their lives?
Remembering the First Time We Met Online
We first met on Heather Crabtree’s Savvy Facebook community where we started commented on each other posts as part of the group’s exercises. Through this project where we were supposed to be helping other members of the group with their social media strategies, we quickly noticed the connection we had and the links between our goals and ideas. These first impressions were really positive and important and the spark was undeniable!
The First Phone Conversation We Had Together
After this initial interaction we had our first phone call which was surprisingly un-awkward (always a good sign!) and got along immediately. We discussed our ideas for a webinar and even then we could see just how differently we approached the subject and how this might be a huge help in balancing our skills. It was as if we had similar goals but different thoughts on how to reach them and of course two is better than one and this was definitely the germination of our partnership.
The 4th of July Weekend When We First Hung Out
Not long after this we decided to take the next step! A 4th of July sleepover! We ate waffles and stayed up late talking about all of our dreams and ambitions. We both felt that we could already be way more open and honest with each other than most people we had ever met, it was like we were already business besties! Although we did not quite know what this collaboration would mean it was clear that we had each found a kindred spirit and something special in each other. We chose to take the dive, be honest and share everything with each other. It might sound crazy but it was the best decision we ever made!
Joining Forces and The First Steps
We had to decide how we were going to grow and the first thing we thought we would focus on was building a big email list. Our email list went from a couple hundred to thousands and the dedication we showed to this goal and achieving it meant we felt like super women going forward to the next goal! We started blogging together and by this point we were absolutely business besties! We realized that we could have done things separately but at this point the connection we had was so strong that we really did not like the idea of competing against a friend, and said, “Let’s do it together!”
What Does it Feel Like Three Years Into This Relationship?
In some ways we have not known each other for that long but we are just so grateful that we did meet when we did, we both are constantly thanking our lucky stars for it! Over and over again we have come to appreciate just how special our relationship and understanding is and on top of that how lucky we have been to be build a business out of that. Both of us feel as though our lives are completely changed since we began this journey and the reciprocity of our arrangement is truly a blessing!
After All This Time, What’s Next On the Horizon?
Even though we love what we have built we still like to imagine other projects for the future. A future where profits are not the bottom line but where we are still comfortably earning enough money is the dream! Some things from our professional wishlist are a live podcast tour, publishing books, a European sabbatical, building our dream-houses and that all important Palm Springs getaway we have been threatening.
Our Favorite Memories From the Last Three Years
We obviously have a hoard of great memories and cherished moments but the top of the list is definitely the great friends and support system we have built through our business. Another highlight was the ‘biz birthday party’ we threw a while back. Abagail took control of planning because Emylee was hands off! and we got so many cute pictures and we are still fantasizing about that floral backdrop. One of the best feelings we have felt is when we suddenly have a a new idea and it starts to materialize in front of our faces! We know all our listeners can relate to the shot of energy that comes with inspiration!
Least Favorite Things That Have Happened in Our Business
Along with the good times have come the mandatory trials and valleys and although they were difficult, the positives made these palatable and strengthened us enough to hold on to the next mountain top. One of the worst feelings for both of us is when we have had to talk about and then let people go. Even though it has almost always just been because of finances it is never easy to say goodbye to someone with who you are connected. We have had launches that flopped to different degrees, we have made mistakes, we have deleted important files and wasted money but as a duo we have given each other the space to feel the feelings of disappointment and failure and then push forward with more productivity, and for us this is vital.
Our Relationship Now
We all know that so many business go under or do not work out in whatever way. Partnerships fall apart, relationships sour and all in all a connection of this type is extremely rare. We actually feel that in some ways it is easier to find a spouse than a business bestie! One thing is for sure, it would almost kill us both if we had to end our partnership and individually we agree that it would feel like the world was ending. At the moment the unspoken agreement is that this business better only dissolve with death or retirement and although we do not know what the future holds and this might all be over one day we are grateful and positive about the horizon ahead.
How We Are Actually Going to Celebrate Our MeetAversary
So apart from this celebratory podcast for your listening pleasure we think we might go out for a special meetaversary dinner and if we are each lucky we might get a gift! But there is no counting on that! Maybe we will get around to going to that free cheese tasting event or helicopter ride that has been on the shelf for all these months! But who knows, as long as we do it together and we have our beloved audience here to hear all about it we know it will be perfect!
Quote This
We were such good friends so quickly, the last thing we wanted to do was hurt the other person’s business.
