Launch Lessons + Food Analogies – Our 2018 June Review

Episode 240: Show Notes

June was the most slap in the face lesson that Emylee has ever had in business. Abbie, on the other hand, felt like we had it coming. But no matter which way you see it, we’re going to talk about it – and many other delicious things – today in our June Review episode. This June, we launched The Strategy Academy live for the first time since November 2017. We have evergreened the program for the past six months and this launch was to give us a big public push. We did have a successful live launch but it did not reach the goals that we had set.

In this episode, we reflect on the process and the results of our Strategy Academy relaunch and highlight some of the latest changes and additions to TCC. We have some exciting things coming up for July, which we’ll share with you too, and round things off with some strategy, pancakes and spaghetti. By end of this episode, you’ll be reminded that sometimes you don’t need to burn your projects but rather, speak about them in a different way.

Our New Ad Team And Why You Need To Grassroots Your Efforts

Latest news – we have an ad team now! We went through Courtney Foster Donahue’s program, FB Everything, which set us up with a solid foundation. But the truth is, what got you here won’t get you there! Meaning, the strategies that get you to your big scary goals now are not necessarily the strategies that are going to get you to your big scary goals later. With that in mind, what we did and what we encourage all of you to do, is to grassroots your efforts first. Learn the strategy, educate yourself, get the data, find out how it can work or not work for you before you decide to cut it forever, or offload it to someone else.. We knew going into this live launch that if we wanted to be really effective moving forward that we needed to have a this new team in place.

If At First You Don’t Succeed, Try and Try Again

If you guys ever listened to our episode, “Our $17,000 Mistake”, you would have heard that we hired a marketing team to set up some funnels for us and long story short, it didn’t go well and we wasted a lot of money figuring that all out. So just an update on that; from the business side of things, it took us a couple of months after that to pick up our tissues and ask, “Is this something that we want to leave forever?” And at the time, it kind of was. But now, we’re ready again to offload this to another team and try again. We got a recommendation for a team for Facebook Ads, and in the first ten minutes of talking to them – we were like “Yes! This is going to work.” Sometimes when things don’t work out, the right thing might be headed your way. So, if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again, right? (Shout out to Destiny’s Child!)

Webinars: Don’t Burn It Down, Just Change Your Messaging

So Emylee has said to you guys over and over again, “You have to constantly be paying attention to what’s working and what’s not working.” We are in a massive season of change. Courses aren’t dead but people being sold courses, is dead. Webinars aren’t dead but the way that people are being sold webinars is dead. All of the things that have worked to make people take specific actions need your attention. So what we could have done, which is what a lot of you do, is convince ourselves that we’re in the wrong business and no one is ever going to buy a course from a webinar again and we just need to shut down shop and go and get a real job, right?

Wrong!

When it comes to webinars, it’s really easy to burn it to the ground and start again. If this is you, we want to use this as an opportunity to look deep into your soul and say, “Before you burn it down or rearrange your entire system, can you please just change how you are talking about it.” Ask yourself, are you making it sound cool, and fluffy, like “Come join this Masterclass”? Hello, can you try calling it something else? Can you strike a new pain point? Can you make people uncomfortable in a different way, so that they actually take action? Can you just change the messaging and see if that makes a difference? Because it was night and day for us. Changing one thing can make all the difference! That is the biggest lesson we have learned. So make one change at a time and monitor the effects of those changes over time.

New Funnels, New People, New Website Changes: Looking Into July

We’ve been funnel-tizing our signature program and we think we’re finally on the cusp of being able to add in a couple other funnels to The Strategy Academy. We have decided to take a look at some of our smaller programs that aren’t really that popular and discover when in a customer’s timeline is it best to pitch them these other products.

In other news, we are also making some changes to our website! We have not made changes in over a year and a half and from your perspective, you probably won’t even notice. It is not a brand makeover, just a few subtle things that we want you to participate in. These changes are basically about us being better at telling you what we want you to do on the website, in a nice way. We are also making a few new structural changes to our team this month and will be working with two people who you are going to love so much. Secret will be out soon…

Rounding Off With Carbs, Cheese And A Reminder To Check Your Monthly Stats

We want to be known for the amazing things that we offer. And people don’t always know how amazing our products are because we don’t talk about it enough and we don’t talk about it in the right way enough. So that is our new focus as we head into July and into the future. We don’t want to add more noise to the industry. We want to add more of what you need and guide you through that process. In other industry news, we recently invented two new strategies which we’ll tell you about soon: The Pancakes Method and Strategic Spaghetti, to go along with our Burrito Method. Carbs and cheese aside, we want you to use this episode as a reminder to check your monthly stats, data and progress.
