But before you think it’s all pie in the sky ideas, she gives us the actual steps from overcoming distractions and anxiety, to cultivating a mindset where we’re no longer comparing ourselves to others. This is going to be a great episode for all of you who feel like you are going through a season of personal growth and for our sisters out there who might need a loving kick in the butt to get down to the business of becoming your best self. And let’s not mess around, we probably need all the help we can get, so tune in today!

The Significance Of Small Steps And Discipline In Reaching Your Goals

When we have big dreams for ourselves, we often focus on the long-term goals such as having a six-figure business or writing a bestseller. It is so important, however, not to overlook the everyday steps that are required to achieve your goals. You need to assess what you can do on a daily basis that will get you just a little closer to your eventual result. This is not going to happen without serious discipline either! There is no overnight transformation, but you need to be faithful in taking those steady steps in the right direction.

Why Self-Improvement Begins Long Before You Achieve The Result

Waiting around for results is super frustrating! We often have the “if only” mindset: “If only I lose so much weight,” or “If only I can make x amount of money, then I’ll be starting on the journey toward personal growth.” Here’s some good news: Self-improvement does not show up once the results have materialized, self-improvement happens the minute you commit to that process and begin taking actual steps towards it. The improvement is in the process.

It’s the decision in the here and now to actually get up and do those things on a daily basis that actually is the self-improvement.

Implementing The Characteristics Of Your Best Self

This all sounds wonderful, right? But how do we actually do this? One of the crucial points for Jordan is to think about the characteristics and habits of the person that you want to become and literally writing down what those are. For example, “The best version of me is confident, diligent and is great with time management.” What you do then, instead of trying to incorporate all those ideals simultaneously, you begin to introduce and practice them one by one. It is really important to be realistic though. It can be overwhelming to try to take massive action and make drastic, sudden changes, so Jordan advises us to take small steps and not to obsess about perfecting them. As long as you make them and progress, you’ll eventually get there.

Overcoming The Barriers To Growth

We have such a loud world, so it’s easy to become distracted. We also compare ourselves tirelessly and strive for unattainable perfection. To be real, we probably won’t ever stop comparing ourselves and become 100% insecurity free, so it’s about being aware of the obstacles and learning to work around them. You can begin by identifying the barriers and then purposefully interrupting it. So knowing, for example, what your default distraction is and pairing it with two or three disciplines really help to counteract them.

Differentiating Between Distraction And Self-Care

Sometimes an activity might seem like a distraction, but it’s actually a necessary and productive break just to reset yourself before grafting away again. It’s all about assigning a specific role to something and being intentional about it. Here it is really important to stick to the time limits you’ve placed on it. If you decide to browse Target for 15 minutes, keep to it. Also decide what your self-care practices are ahead of time. Self-care is different for everyone, so the same rules don’t necessarily apply to the people around you.

Addressing Purpose In The Book Own Your Everyday

A challenge for a lot of people is figuring out what they’re meant to do with their lives, what their purpose is. One of the main things Jordan addresses in her book is not living in a box and not limiting yourself to doing only one big thing in your life; she stresses the value of trying new things and expanding your skillset. We often don’t seek new opportunities because of a belief that other people won’t understand it or support us because it’s not in line with this one thing that we used to always do. Try new things, get your hands dirty and explore different roles and places. Also remember that you not only get significance and purpose from what you do but also from who are as a person.
