The Importance of a Website Audit - Our New Website is Live!

Episode 688: Show Notes

Let’s talk about your website! The one place you can present the version of yourself and your business that is accurate, helpful, and actually effective for you and your business. Have you looked at it lately? We’re guessing that many of you have put your website on the backburner for the past few years; especially if you’ve been in business for a while. We’re also guessing that the reason you’ve done this is because you’ve been treating social media as your main marketing platform.

An important factor to consider is that when social media platforms change their algorithms (and your business doesn’t get as much traction as a result), people will go back and look at your website. If you haven’t been paying attention to your website, it’s not going to go down too well! We’re also guilty of not always paying attention to everything on our website, but there are certain things that we have never (and will never) stop doing. So, regardless of the last time you touched your website, we’re going to talk about how to get it back to the point where it best serves you.

Why We Revamped Our Website

As our business has shifted and grown, the way we show up and help our clients has changed. But for the past year or two our website hasn’t reflected that. For any business, there’s no reason to spend a lot of time and money gaining traffic to your website if it doesn’t represent your business accurately. This was our top reason for making the effort to give our website the revamp that it deserved. Another reason is that when Google announced the changes coming in the summer of 2023, we realized that if we didn’t start paying attention we could jeopardize all the work we have already done.

The Challenges of Rebuilding a Website

Rebuilding a website isn’t an easy task, especially when you (like us) have thousands and thousands of pages of content. We talked about it for about 8 months and spent 6 months implementing the changes. Yes, that’s a lot of time, but we think it was definitely worth it! Don’t let fear hold you back from doing something that will take your business to the next level.

Google’s “New Search

In 2023, Google is going to be rolling out what they are calling the “new search.” The intention of this is to provide better, more thorough answers to the questions that people are typing into the Google search bar. In doing this, Google is attempting to better match web results with what people are looking for. So, what this means for you as a business owner is that you can tailor your content to what your users are looking for instead of trying to hit some arbitrary keyword count to make Google happy. To us, this feels like Google is actually finally supporting the message of “quality over quantity” that we have been hearing them talk about for years.

The Connection-Building Power of Websites

We want you to be able to grow your business and your revenue based on organic traffic. When it comes to conversion metrics, there’s nothing that works as well as connecting with people on a personal level. The power of your website is that you can speed up the interactions that you’re already having or you can help potential clients get up to speed on what your offerings are. We have a client who doesn’t have very high site traffic but because her keywords are exactly aligned with what she’s offering, her conversion rates are incredibly high!

Work-In-Progress

Your website doesn’t have to be perfect to be effective. Spend less time worrying about making your website exactly what you want it to be and instead put that MVP out into the world and make adjustments as you go. You can adjust your lead content form and add additional pages later. Targeting the right search results and making sure that your offerings are clear on your website are the things that you should be focusing on right now!

Quote This

The most effective form of conversion metrics out there is one-on-one relationships.
