The ‘Traylor’ Effect: How Taylor Swift’s and Travis Kelce’s Relationship Is Driving Sales

Episode 791: Show Notes

Today we are going to delve into one of the most talked about topics on the internet right now, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. A huge part of the reason I have avoided commentary until now is because I didn’t want to sound like a fan girl but you have all spoken and asked me to talk about this. You all know that I am a huge Taylor Swift fan so today, I’m going to talk about something that is making a huge economic impact on not just my city, but cities around the world.

It feels like someone who is destined to be the queen of England (Taylor) is dating Prince Charming (Travis). Both of these people were already a big deal individually but now that they’re together, they have blown up even more! I want to talk about specific aspects of this relationship and the economic impact it’s created in Kansas City, how it’s affected sales, and what I anticipate it will do for our city moving forward.

Taylor Buys a House in Kansas City and What That Means

Supposedly, in July, Travis wanted to meet Taylor and made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it to shoot his shot. Everyone was hoping for this to happen and finally, we are seeing Taylor not as a solo act, but with a partner in public more than ever before and everyone is reporting on it! I can imagine that this is what it must’ve felt like when Elvis and the Beatles were at their most popular. The most recent event is Taylor buying a house in Kansas City. It definitely makes sense for Taylor and Travis to want a more secure area to live in and it’s quite clear that you’ve got to be pretty serious about someone to buy a whole new house while you’re dating. But it also has a serious economic impact on the city. There are only so many people who can buy that home and the fact is, it was on the market for more than a year before she bought it!

How Taylor Has Changed Kansas City’s Economic Game

This entire situation has been so wild to watch but even so, I don’t think many people truly understand the impact it has on the city I call home. There is speculation that Taylor has prevented a recession in the USA because of the economic impact of her tour. There are entire studies being done on the amount of attention one person has created that has changed the economic trajectory of a whole country. When we talk about her concert alone, when she performed in Kansas City most people spent between $1300 and $1500 dollars on merchandise, dining, accommodation, and flights. This alone had an impact of up to $200 million for just two nights in Kansas City. This two-day event alone surpassed the economic impact of us hosting the NFL draft this year.

The Economic Impact of ‘Traylor’ in Kansas City

As soon as Taylor showed up at a Chiefs game, the tickets doubled in price. I am seeing so many sales happening for small businesses booming off the back of this relationship. Taylor and Travis being together has also led to some seriously amazing donations to non-profit organizations. The couple has also bought out entire restaurants in the city to get a little bit of privacy which means a lot to those restaurants economically. I love seeing our small businesses being supported and people being drawn out of their homes and into the city by this couple! Even if this couple doesn’t last long, the potential ripple effect that this relationship brings to the city is incredible!
