It was recently Kinzie’s birthday and we decided pretty spontaneously to have this conversation at her party! This episode has it all, we talk about the importance of hard work and family, intentionality and just serving your people as best you can. We are going to getting kind of woo today, which is something we have been wanting to do for a while and this was the perfect excuse. We will be talking tarot readings, birth charts, the moon, and more. So get strapped in, we are going deep!

How Kinzie Manifested Her Dream Studio Space

As a photographer, Kinzie has worked in a number of studios, some of them have been really, really nice. But none of them were perfect for what she does and wants. It was during this year that she decided she really wanted to focus and work towards finding the space of her dreams, something that was cozy and homey but where she could conduct her business uninterrupted. There was quite a long list of requirements for this hypothetical studio and it even felt a bit impossible to imagine a place that had everything she wanted. Anyway, it was in June this year that she decided she was going to slowly start working towards making this dream a reality, in whatever way she could. This meant cutting some expenses and saving up a little extra money. She also took a small step away from all the client work she was doing and wrote out a long list of all the requirements for the space, no matter how far fetched it seemed to find all of them in one place. Not long after writing these out she witnessed a huge and powerful full moon and chose to put these intentions out into the night and ask the moon to help her realize them. She literally gave the moon her list of requirements and meditated on its presence and power. That night as Kinzie got into bed she saw an ad for something that seemed almost perfect! When when she contacted the owners she realized it was not going to work but they offered their other property across the street which was actually a perfect match for her list. Isn’t that crazy?

The Weird Magical Connections and Readings at this Time

These wonderful, strange and magical connections that had already started happening just proved to Kinzie that she was moving in the right direction. She ended up having a birth chart reading for her birthday because birthdays mean a lot to her! We get you, girl! The person doing this reading sensed a lot of things in Kinzie, stuff she could not know off the bat. She felt that she was an entrepreneur but also that she had some nursing or healing in her. After going through this with Kinzie they realized that her work as a body positive and taboo removing boudoir photographer is how she heals people and the reader even called her an emotional surgeon! Something that she says will not go away for her whole life, no matter where she finds herself. Apparently her purpose is to work with women and help them with their transformations and journeys, removing stigma and discomfort. What a perfect fit!

Kinzie’s Very Specific Perception of the World

In her work and outside of it, Kinzie has always had a high appreciation for the beauty in the world. The little things that she notices in people and their idiosyncrasies are what make life worth living. And this work and its observations has helped her to be more kind and appreciative of herself. In her community both online and in person, she really strives to build a culture of compliments. It is something that can be seen clearly in her Facebook group where she encourages members through the group culture to exercise their complementary muscles. These comments can really change someone’s day, lift your own spirits and help you love yourself better! What a great way to see things! You can find beauty in everything and this will help you see more beauty in the mirror. Kinzie has seen great results, with new group members adopting these ideas quickly and getting involved off the bat. In this way we can create safe spaces for ourselves and others in which nurturing and encouragement is the main currency.  Kinzie reminds us that words have a lot power and can help or harm in equal measure. We should be careful how we use them on ourselves, others and in the world. Wise words, that we applaud loudly! Go girl!

Kinzie Ferguson wants to change this world to be a more positive, inclusive, and kind space. Kinzie does this, in part, through her epically engaged private Facebook community for women and femmes called the Empowerment Studio. In the group, she guides members to love on each other, and teaches them to throw some of that love back on themselves. Kinzie also owns the Empowerment Photographer, a boudoir photography studio in Kansas City, MO, where she guides her clients to see their bodies in revolutionary and deeply kind ways. Kinzie and her partner Donnie live with their three cats (who have human names), and their toddler son (who they named after an animal). They love going to the park near their home and having epic dance parties as a family.
