These Give Us the Ick: It's Time to Do Business Your Way
Episode 735: Show Notes
We have been seeing many frustrating things in the business world lately, so today, we talk about marketing ploys and business strategies that we don’t align with. We strongly believe that if you work with a coach, you should ensure that that person lives their life and runs their business in a way that aligns with your belief system so that you can create a life and a business that you really, truly want.
Tune in today to hear about what gives us “the ick” in the industry and how we are doing things differently. We want you to know that there is an easier way to go about things than what you may have been experiencing up until now. The process will be different for everyone, and we want to help you find the most optimal approach for YOU! We hope you walk away knowing exactly what kind of space this is and what you can expect from us going forward.
Tweak It or Leave It
In the highly connected digital world that we live in, we are all constantly bombarded with information from a variety of sources. One of the most important skills you can learn as a business owner is to separate the things that work for you from those that don’t and then leave the things that don’t work behind without looking back! Just because someone is saying that a particular tactic or strategy worked well for them doesn’t mean it will work the same for you. So, listen carefully to what other people are saying, take it on and tweak it to suit your business if you think it will be helpful; otherwise, forget about it and move on.
Be Obsessed With What You Are Selling
When was the last time you were in a high-pressure sales conversation? Sometimes these situations are unavoidable, but if you are finding yourself facing them regularly, you might need to rethink how you are positioning yourself. Recently, a client approached us because she was struggling to “sell herself as the expert” to her clients. This is a no-go! You are selling your deliverables and your scope, not yourself! The best way to increase your sales is not to chase clients; it is to create a product that you are extremely proud of.
Eliminate FOMO and Guilt
You don’t need to sell to everyone, and you don’t need to feel bad that not everyone can afford your service. As a small business, it is unethical to expect yourself and your team to be able to serve a huge audience. First and foremost, you need to focus on making your business profitable. Once your business is sustainable, you can give back to your community in whatever way you see fit. We can help you get to this point, but we aren’t going to do it by promoting a particular growth mechanism because not all methods work for all people. Instead, we prefer to identify what is working for you and how we can help you hone the skills that you have already developed in order to achieve bigger and better results!
Change Your Perspective on Growth
Growth is not the be-all and end-all of business success. You may want to build a multi-million dollar business, or you may just want to make enough to live a life without financial stress. What gives us “the ick” is the constant rhetoric around growth and the lack of conversations about making that growth intentional, getting your systems stable, and maintaining that growth. Slowing down to build up your endurance is harder than always going faster and faster, but in the long run, it will help you to avoid burnout and build a sustainable business with a predictable income!
Business Foundations > Sales and Marketing
Over 95% of the educational materials available for businesses are focused on sales and marketing. But more often than not, what business owners really need to learn long before any sales and marketing strategies are business foundations. From the very beginning, we have been teaching good old-fashioned business practices, things that have been true since businesses were invented! This is where you need to start. Forget about sales and marketing for a minute, and let’s get back to basics.
What It Really Means To Be A CEO
We hear it everywhere: “As the CEO, it is your job to create a business that you no longer have to be a part of.” We couldn’t agree less. It’s true that you’re not always going to love your business, and you’re not going to ever love every element of it. But taking yourself out of it entirely means that you are avoiding responsibility, and before you know it, your beloved business could turn into a monster. You don’t need to know every detail about your business, but you should definitely have a high-level understanding of what is going on at all times.
Quote This
It is actually your due diligence to make your business profitable first so that you can turn around and impact others.
