10 Evergreen Content Ideas to Keep the Traffic Coming

The culture of blog posts has changed drastically in the last 10 years. Back then, you were able to get away with writing 500-word fluff stuffed to the brim with keywords for a better ranking on Google. In today’s online world, though, it’s more important than ever that your posts provide genuine value and teach a comprehensive lesson of some sort.

Timeless value, at that. And you do that by creating evergreen content.

Let’s dive into what exactly “evergreen” content is, why it’s important, and 10 content ideas to get you started going evergreen with your posts.

What is Evergreen Content and Why is it Important?

The word “evergreen” simply refers to the fact that something is timeless and always relevant. Someone could come across your post in a search 10 more years from now, and the information will still be valuable to them.

The reason this is so important is because it means you’re getting a higher return on your time investment. Evergreen content is usually longer-form content, so you likely take a good chunk out of your time to create it properly. If you’re only writing on topics that are relevant to now, you won’t experience a continual return.

Sure, writing a piece on a shiny new thing will attract more visitors at the moment, but the traffic will die quickly. That’s not to say you shouldn’t still write about those things as a way to increase your traffic now, but know that it’ll only last for a moment.

10 Evergreen Content Ideas for Continuous Traffic

Now that you know what defines evergreen content (and you may already have a few topic ideas swirling around), in what format should you publish it in order to spice things up? Always publishing informational posts will soon get old and likely boring to your audience. Switching up your format is a way to keep things interesting and to entice readers to visit other posts of yours.

HOW-TO GUIDES

How-tos have yet to fail us, and they’re great for SEO since so many people begin their searches with “how to ___.” (As a matter of fact, if you were to search those words on our site, you’d find exactly 224 posts that have “how to” in the title.)

LISTICLES

Everyone loves a good list, and they’re perfectly timeless. “44 Quick Tips to Becoming the Most Productive Person You Know” and “10 Must-Have Details to Include in Your Client Welcome Packet” are posts that will still be interesting and relevant even when we’re old ladies.

CASE STUDIES

Give an in-depth analysis of something showcasing the results that either you experienced from a strategy or a client/customer experienced from your products or services.

CHECKLISTS

We don’t see checklists dying anytime soon, if at all. If you’re a travel blogger, you could create a travel preparation checklist. A doula could create a hospital bag checklist.

ULTIMATE GUIDES

How many times have you searched Pinterest or Google for something and come across a blog post titled “The Ultimate Guide to __?” Probably very often, and that’s for a reason. It works! Informational posts on a topic are one of our top favorite types of evergreen content.

TUTORIALS

Tutorials on how to use or do something are pretty much always useful. If there’s an established program involved, they hardly need to be updated either. For example, we only recently updated our top-performing tutorial on creating a vision board in Canva, and it was mostly to update the screenshots to reflect the newest version of Canva. The content itself only had minimal changes.

TOP TIP POSTS

Top tips are another form of content that we see never dying and are super clickable. “Top Tips to Boost Your Social Media Marketing Game” will stay interesting to readers for years to come.

BEGINNERS GUIDES

This is a super hot form of evergreen content because there will always be someone new to something looking for information.

RESOURCE LISTS

Think of a topic that’s always relevant in your industry and curate a list of resources someone can use to help them with that topic. You can include links to websites, social media pages, statistical reports, your own products or services, etc.

PRODUCT REVIEWS

Product reviews will never get old and will only need to be updated if a product gets discontinued or if an improved version is released that you try.

These are 10 of the most popular and effective evergreen content formats that we’ve tried, loved, and found great success with. Evergreen content is a way to continue being relevant, valuable, and interesting to your audience for years to come with minimum upkeep needed from you.

Since you’ll always have new traffic to these posts, be sure you’re including CTAs in all of them to encourage readers to visit your products or freebies.
