5 Effective Ways to Get 1k New Email Subscribers

Email is one of our most favorite things to talk about! In the 5 years we’ve been in business, we’ve seen 100k+ new subscribers come through our doors. It’s been an amazing outlet for us to provide exclusive value to our audience outside of your everyday Instagram post. With email, there’s a more personal connection you gain by being allowed space in someone’s inbox.

Since we’ve had our fair share of methods that worked (and didn’t) to grow our email list, we wanted to share with you our top 5 favorite ways to get people to sign up for your email list and increase conversions!

1. Host a Free Webinar

Webinars have been a major source of growth for our list. You not only want to choose a topic that your audience cares about, but one that you’re passionate about as well. This way, you’ll have more fun during the webinar and the energy will be spectacular! Building the know/like/trust factor with your audience puts the cherry on top because they get something more from you than just reading things you’ve written or seeing pictures. They’re able to see you face-to-camera, hear your voice, see your mannerisms, everything that makes you you.

Over the years, we’ve honestly lost count of how many webinars we’ve hosted, but we know for a fact that the number is well over 50. If you want to learn more about what we’ve learned from hosting all of these webinars, check out this blog post.

2. Create a Freebie/Lead Magnet

Freebie, opt-in, lead magnet, trip wire– it goes by many names, but serves the same purpose: Provide a free gift in exchange for virtual real estate in someone’s inbox. Come on, you can’t expect someone to just willingly give up such precious information, can you? Your freebie should aim to provide real value and to solve a real problem that your audience is having.

Having trouble thinking of Instagram content? Here are 100 captions! Don’t know how to navigate a sales call? Here’s a call guide! Struggling to create social graphics? Here are some pre-made templates! Basically, if you’re having trouble thinking of what to create that you can offer for free, really dig deep and analyze your audience to figure out what they’re struggling with that you can take care of quickly, simply, and for free.

If your opt-in is a PDF of some sort, which is the usual route to go, we’ve taken care of the design part for you with our brand new Opt-In Templates in The Creative Template Shop. All you have to do is one-click add it to your Canva account and customize to match your branding and content.

You can get instant downloadable access to this template and all other templates in The Shop when you become a member for only $47/month!

3. Run a Free Challenge

Challenges and webinars are neck-and-neck for us because they both provide the most list growth in a shorter period of time. Our most famous challenge is 5 Days to Launch, and we’ve recently started a challenge for The Shop called the 4-Day Batch Blitz. We give a LOT of value with these challenges, making sure that we solve a specific problem over that period of time. Your challenge could run as short or as long as you want it to, but each day should focus on a certain aspect that will eventually lead to their problem being solved.

As an example, here’s our day-by-day layout of our 5 Days to Launch Challenge:

Day 1: From Idea to Offer – This is where we help our audience turn their idea into a tangible offer that can be sold.

Day 2: Product, Package, and Price – On this day, we help them put a price tag on their offer and break it down into packages, if applicable.

Day 3: Client Experience – The name is as it suggests. On this day, we focus on creating an amazing client experience.

Day 4: Automating Your Marketing – This is where we figure out the tech side of things and putting the marketing side on autopilot.

Day 5: Launch, Launch, Baby! – Now that they’ve gone through the steps to create a viable offer, all that’s left is to launch it.

4. Embed a Website Popup or Form

When someone visits your website, you could enable a pop up after a period of time, like 30 seconds, or after they’ve scrolled a certain length on your website that prompts them to join your list. Usually there’s still an incentive to go along with it, whether it’s a percentage off on your products, or you’re showing off your new freebie. You also could (and, honestly, should) embed a signup form on your site, usually at the footer.

Another way you can use forms is by including it in a button on your social channels. For example, Flodesk allows you to create full-page forms with a URL. You could include this link in the button on your Facebook page. You could also shorten the link using Bitly and put it in your Instagram bio, or if you have a Linktr.ee or something similar, you can link it there.

5. Run List-Exclusive Promotions or Deals

This one is pretty straightforward we think. Offer exclusive deals, discounts, or host a giveaway to your email list. Talk about how you do these things on your public-facing channels to prompt people to join your list so they don’t miss out!

Those were all 5 ways you can implement ASAP to gain 1k new email subscribers and beyond! We hope that these tips were helpful and that you’re able to hit your goals with your subscriber count. Remember, there’s a lot more nurturing that should happen behind the scenes once someone joins your list. If you want to read more about email marketing do’s and don'ts, head here.
