Digital Products I Would NOT Create If I Were Just Getting Started

Episode 814: Show Notes

It feels wild to say that I’ve been making digital products for over eight years now! I have all this knowledge that I am desperate to get out into the world and I want to help more people and see you be successful too. In this episode, we dig into the digital products I would not create if I were just getting started (and it’s not what you think, so be sure to listen in!)

Before we get into it though, I’m so excited to be teaching people how to create their own digital products. It’s not just any product, but one that acts as an entry point and a tool to attract strangers who will become ideal buyers in your world. We’re talking about getting paid to bring in more qualified leads for your offers! Check out all the details here.

One Thing Almost Everyone Starting Out Does Wrong

The success of selling digital products actually has nothing to do with the format. Your problem is that you’re selling something that people don’t want. They may want the offer. They may have total buy-in that it’s going to work. They may totally believe you, but if there is any element of creating a self-commitment, you are going to have some serious problems. You have to sell people on their own ability to DIY what you have created.

What the Most Effective Digital Products Are Actually About

The most effective digital products scratch an itch for people. It’s something they were already interested in potentially exploring, and you give them a window into a whole new world. They can see for themselves if it makes sense to them, and they don’t have to commit prior to purchase. It’s as though you do all the research for them and make it easy for them to absorb a ton really quickly.

The Secret Behind My Most Popular Mini-Course

A digital product can be a lot of different things. It can be a guide, an ebook, or a course. How can you deliver transformation with the least friction? My mini-course, Trello for Business, has sold more than 10,500 times. All of those were paid leads, many of whom have gone on to buy expensive programs, high-end coaching experiences, and more. This dropped at a time when project management was all the small business world could talk about, and Trello for Business broke down how to utilize this tool in small business, and what the practical applications are.

Why We Didn’t Give Away Your Business on Autopilot for Free

Your Business on Autopilot spoke specifically to tech stacks. It delivered on showcasing what software and tools were most helpful for our clients and customers (and to us) and we sold it for $11. What we were recommending was affiliate links! The goal was not to make money from the digital product, but to make recurring revenue from our referral to those digital products. And we did! We’ve been a Top 50 affiliate for some of the biggest companies in the world.

What We’ve Done The Most and Why We’ll Keep Doing It

We created the Creative Template Shop in 2020. You can access thousands of templates specifically designed for small business owners to solve very specific problems. That being said, we now have the Co-Op, which offers ongoing access to all of the templates all at once along with access to all of our educational materials and courses. The reason this works and has been downloaded so many times is that it’s not overwhelming. People are looking to buy super specific, individualized products. If you can match those to relevant search terms or SEO, you can show up for solving them!

How Integration Became Our Superpower

Some of our best tools work because of how they integrate with the other things they are connected to. For example, we have created a ton of Dubsado forms. Working directly with the software company, we developed better templates that were easy to implement. Your goal here is simply to either solve a very specific problem that doesn’t require a whole bunch of your customer’s time OR fully focus on allowing your customer to explore their curiosity and see if they want to dive deeper into this subject or area of their life or business.

Two Goals to Take You to the Next Level

Our number one goal is visibility. Number two is getting people who have purchasing power into your world. We want to attract them, show the value they can get, earn their trust, and the rest will come. There is a method to this madness! I have done this again and again.

I developed Your Digital VA to speak to people who want to utilize AI more in their business and don’t want to do all the research to make it happen. I’ve literally given them a ton of scripts to plug in so that they can try it out for themselves.

I have so much to say about this topic! That’s why I’ve created Digital Product Jumpstart. Now, this does require some element of self-commitment, and I’m fully aware that this means I have to do more work to get someone excited. But this is for someone who has likely been in my world for a minute and knows what to expect. I can’t wait to help you bring in more people who are completely aligned with your value system and how you want to run your business. Do it in community. Do it with me! Find out more here!
