5 Successful Strategies to Market Your Email Opt-In

Email can be such a game-changer for businesses that want to connect with their audience in a more personal way. When you compare your people scrolling upon a social media post versus getting valuable content delivered directly to their inbox, email is the way to go if you want to build authentic relationships.

Plus, email gives you an opportunity to share exclusive content with your list, making it even more valuable to your audience. Anyone can see your social media accounts and not follow you, but your subscribers have already signed up for the long haul and are ready to devour new content as it comes.

But email marketing is more than just creating a list and hoping people subscribe to it. It takes work to make sure people know about it, and even more work to make sure that they actually want to subscribe, which is where your opt-in comes in.

Since you’re reading this post, we’ll assume you already have an opt-in created (but if not, this is the post for you) and are looking for ways to market it. If so, you’ve come to the right place! Today, we’re going to share 5 successful strategies to market your opt-in, your freebie, your lead magnet - whatever you want to call it!

Create Pinterest Pins

On Pinterest, you’re able to advertise your freebie with a beautiful graphic, and when using the right keywords to attract your audience, you’re bound to get some hits. It’s basically the holy grail of opt-in marketing for many businesses. Before you rush to create tons of Pins for your freebie, though, you must know where your audience hangs out most. If your ideal people are hanging out there, perfect! But if not, you may want to focus your marketing efforts elsewhere first.

Market on Your Blog

If you own a blog, there are multiple ways to use it to market your opt-in. For starters, you can create banner graphics to add below your posts and encourage sign-ups or sidebar graphics, as you can see on our site if you glance to the right. You can also add an inline form into your blog posts to advertise your freebie while readers are checking out a post. Finally, you can write blog content that works alongside your freebie.

If you’re an avid reader of our posts or you scroll back far enough, you’ll notice a trend. For every new freebie we created, we also wrote a series of blog posts related to that freebie. From there, we’d Pin those posts as usual. This provided a content aid versus just outright marketing a freebie, as well as extra value to entice readers to want to grab it.

Market on Your Website

Just the same as your blog, there are a couple of ways to add your opt-in to different parts of your website. The most common method would be to create a pop up form that will display when a reader has scrolled a certain distance down your site or an exit-intent pop up. Another way to show your opt-in is by creating a site banner that sits at the header of your website.

If you have multiple freebies, another idea would be to create another page of your site just for free resources, so visitors can browse through them. Who doesn’t love looking at free stuff?

Add It to Your Product List

If you sell physical or digital products, try adding your freebie to your product list. You can see an example of this at The Creative Template Shop. We have our freebie templates listed as a product that displays with our full template list and in its own category, even though visitors don’t actually have to purchase it unless they want full customization ability. It’s proven to be an awesome method to get new subscribers added to our Shop list!

Add It to Your Social Channels

If you have a Facebook page, you could create a cover image for your freebie and link it in the description, create a pinned post for it, or link it in your page button. On Instagram, you could add a link to your bio. If you use a service like Linktr.ee or have your own Instagram landing page created, you can show it off there, too! Of course, be sure to talk about it in your posts also. If you have over 10k followers on Instagram, you can add a swipe up feature to your Stories and easily direct them to sign-up.

Those were 5 strategies to market your email opt-in! We use these strategies ourselves, and have had amazing success with gaining new subscribers. The best part about these strategies is they cost absolutely zero dollars to implement!
